Last night I shared two poems at the monthly Creative Colloquy reading and open mic.
Jealousy: The fear of losing something precious
Flushed cheeks
Twinkling eyes
These familiar signs confirmed
By your voice thick with excitement and
Fumbled words
A new crush held your hand.
Precious to me is a heart full of love for everyone and everything, down to the teeny mushrooms along the trail.
You’ve made a space for me in such a full heart
I am fearless
On A Dark Night
My little lamp creates mirrors
Each window reflecting a different view of my home
A different place you used to be – your body, your smile
The silence holding words we forgot to say
Sadness for the never-was curls around my heart
Holds me as a tear slowly sneaks into my ear
This secret grief – the mourning that birthed great joy – lives only in the window-mirrors.
Dispelled by a dawn that rises with the promise of our weekly dinner date
We’ll share stories and laughter over mediocre food
My heart fluttering anew at your radiant joy
Full of love in a new form:
My dear friend, happy.
